In the Anglo-Saxon period, Beowulf was a very violent, intelligent, strong man. To the Anglo-Saxons he was considered the ultimate hero. Are the qualities he posessed similar to those of a hero today? Explain and give a specific example.
In the US, we look up to our president(most of the time) and want his success to benefit us. Likewise, the Anglo-Saxons looked up to Beowulf to protect them and help them out in hopes of making their environment safer.
Yes, there are heroes today that do contain most of the qualities that Beowulf displayed. At the moment, the United States has soldiers fighting in the war against Iraq. These soldiers are our heroes, protecting our country. These men and women are courageous, fighting the enemy because they feel it's their duty to the country, just like Beoeulf feels that he must protect the Danes.
