Nicole Bockus Beowulf Question

Beowulf exhibited all of the qualities of an Anglo-Saxon hero; strength, bravery, and more. He managed to save the people from two monsters and stayed calm and stood strong through both ordeals. Beowulf, and other heroes, were the men that were admired and looked up to. In today's society the people we put on pedestals are mainly those in pop-culture. After reading about Beowulf's actions, do you believe that the people that are idolized today have the right to be held at such a high level and why?

The people that are idolized today do not have the right to be held at such a high level. We mostly idolize people of pop culture like Britney Spears or Paris Hilton, but why do we idolize people who can't sing and have no natural talent? Living in the world today is all about following the trend and following what other people think. It is not like preschool when you idolized firemen and policemen because they are the bravest people that you know of. You haven't been corrupted by the media yet to think that someone who is a great performer should be idolized. There is not people idolized like Beowulf was because good news stories don't sell. The media doesn't like to tell you about the wholesome heroes that may have saved their neighbor from a fire or saved a drowning brother. The media only wants you to hear what will make them the most money and the fact that people are more interested in these stories makes stories like Beowulf unappreciated.
