Jennie Weber's Beowulf Question # 1

The Anglo-Saxons iodolized their hereos and looked upon them as a shield over their dwelling. They were told about in legends down the line of generations. Their names went glorified through history. Heroes and celebrities were looked upon as one category. Now they are separated by great lengths. How do you think the heroes and celebrities of our time are treated as two catergories compared to the Anglo-Saxon's one?

During Anglo-Saxon times, heroes and celebrities were considered the same thing because there were so little people to look up to. Nowadays heroes and celebrities are two different groups that sometimes still intertwine. The idea of a modern day hero differs from person to person. A hero can be anyone from someone’s mother to a firefight or social worker. A hero is still brave but it is not necessarily brave in the sense of fighting off a monster. A hero is looked up to by their courageous accomplishments. Celebrities are glorified not by their accomplishments but by their beauty and talent. Some adoring fans consider celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie their heroes because of their generosity and donations to many different organizations.
