Lauren Nasiff's Beowulf Question #1

After having defeated Grendel, Beowulf's confidence in his abilities leads him to go after Grendel's mother. His over confidence led him into another quest for fame and into danger once again. In literature over confidence often leads the hero to their downfall, but the Anglo Saxon's idolized their heroes so it is doubtful that Beowulf will have a weak spot at all. Do you think Beowulf's over confidence will eventually become his downfall or do think he will continue to be invincible throughout the story?

I believe that, in his effort to be invincible, Beowulf with meet his downfall. He has said before in the cases of Grendel and his mother that he would either defeat them or pretty much die trying. I think, in his next adventure, Beowulf will finally meet his match. In an attempt to maintain his heroic status, he will keep trying to defeat a monster until he really does die trying, because he doesn't know when it's ok to stop in order to save his own skin.

I think that because of Beowulf's over glorification he has become hot-headed and agrees with his follwers that he is invincible. This leads him into taking on another battle that he believe he will succeed. I believe that Beowulf will think that the monster is no match for him and in thinking that he will lack in power and agility.
