In Beowulf, we see that many of the characters usually are associated with epithets - a description of who they are. For example, Beowulf is mostly always referred to as "Beowulf, the son of Ecgtheow." This shows that the Anglo-Saxons believed heavily on family ancestry. Do you think Beowulf's dad being such a successful warrior has something to do with the fame and respect which he is shown?
Family ancestry definitely plays a part in everyone's life. Compare and contrast the importance of family life and ancestry in the Anglo-Saxon times with the importance it is given today.
